A meeting between Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange Ltd(CSE) was held in the board room of the DSE on February 20, 2006. Chaired by DSE President Mr. Abdullah Bokhari, the meeting discussed various ways and means to help boost the Stock Market. CSE President Mr. M.K.M Mohiuddin led the delegation of country's second stock exchange. DSE Senior Vice President Mr. Ahmad Rashid, Vice President Mr. N.U.M Oliullah, Directors Mr. Md. Shahiq Khan, Mr. Khwaja Ghulam Rasul, Md. Shakil Rizvi, Mr. Sharif Ataur Rahman, Mr. Shahed Abdul Khaleque, Mr. Md. Azizul Hoque and Chief Executive Offier Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed Khan also attended.


The meeting decided to form a six-member working committee to jointly work for strengthening the stock market. Both the DSE and CSE policymakers agreed to work jointly on various market-related issues like Initial Public Offerings (IPO), de-listing of companies, direct listing of companies, alluring foreign investors, keeping the market open on Saturdays and disseminating the price-sensitive information to the investors and SEC very timely. All these proposals if implemented properly will bring a lot of positive change in the stock market which will ultimately help promote the private-sector led economy of the country. Both the bourses will also work jointly on reviewing the rules and regulations on stock market. The meeting also discussed the issue for restoration of underwriting job by brokers as done by the members of the bourses till 1996.

The DSE and CSE Presidents along with some former Chairmen and Presidents of DSE also met the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam on the day at a local hotel in Dhaka. The ex-chairmen and Directors of DSE thanked the SEC Chairman for performing his duty as Chief of the country's stock market regulatory body. The immediate past President Mr Md Shahiq Khan, former President Mr Ahmed Iqbal Hasan, former President Mr. Imtiyaz Husain, former Chairman Mr. M.A. Huq Howlader, Senior Vice President Mr. Ahmad Rashid and Chief Executive Offier Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed Khan CSE President Mr. M.K.M Mohiuddin and vice President Mr. Nasir Uddin Ahmed were present on the occasion.
